-Shine was the third song recorded for "Freakshow." Intending to follow in the footsteps of "Dead", the original had a very industrial feel to it.
-Unlike Dead, Shaun Roland was very fond of the original recording of Shine, and made the effort to preserve its' integrity in the finalized recording.
-Shine was thought, by Shaun, to be impossible to adapt for live performances. Words were spoken about adding a synthesizer to the live show for the purpose of performing it, or altogether dropping it, but during a jam on the first day of practice, the band experimented with playing it wholly instrumentally, which came out well enough that it was played live at their first show, two weeks later.
-The original lyrics for the song are slightly different, and the song started off as an acoustic arrangement. This idea was scrapped for a harder feel.
lyrics
If I had a choice, maybe I'd chose to fall apart
I think I just want an excuse to be a lonely distant heart,
Don't want to want the loneliness, but wanting's all I do
Want the subtle deprivation, so I have nothing left to prove
No money don't buy happiness, but it buys lots of drugs,
And drugs they are my happiness 'cuz I have given up,
I'd hate to know my future, but I'd love to know what's next
Give a shit about tomorrow, but I wonder 'bout the rest
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah the stars In the sky
May have already died
But for one moment more,
They shine one
I'm told that there's a right and there is definitely wrong,
But the line that separates them really isn't all that long
I work so hard to make myself so different from the rest
But it just makes me distant makes me care that much less
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah the stars in the sky
May have already died
But for one moment moer,
They shine on
Do I crave a deep connection? Or something ... physical?
Or want someone to save me, from being miserable
At least that's what I say, and everybody seems to buy it
But words don't really mean much when they're spoken by a liar
Liar
Yeah the stars in the sky
May have already died
But for one moment more
They shine on
Yeah the stars in the sky
May have already died,
But for one moment more,
They shine on
